Canada's Blue Jays Claim World Series Showdown With defending champion Dodgers
George Springer previously helped the Astros winning the championship in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays earned a spot in their first Fall Classic after 1993 by overcoming the Mariners in the final Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.
Trailing 3-1, Springer hit a three-run home run in the seventh, guiding the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series win in the best-of-seven series. Awaiting them are the Dodgers, who are the defending champions, in the forthcoming championship.
"It's incredible for everyone here, Toronto, Canada," said Springer, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that won the 2017 championship. "This is such an incredible feeling."
The veteran has now slugged 23 total post-season home runs, placing him third all-time behind Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).
"I can't think of another player in the world that I'd prefer in that spot other than George Springer with his post-season brilliance," remarked manager John Schneider.
Seattle, despite leading the early in the series, are still the sole team never to appear in a World Series.
Manager Dan Wilson commented "there's no question that it's going to sting" following his club's elimination at Rogers Centre, but commended their efforts throughout the year.
"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we finished on the wrong side of this one," he added.
Toronto won the championship on both previous visits in 1992 and 1993, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the first game on the upcoming Friday.
