Ex- Physician Charged with Assault Charges Involving 38 Patients
Legal authorities have announced that a ex- doctor has been charged with committing assaults against thirty-eight individuals who were patients.
The Grave Charges
The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham faces allegations of dozens of sexual offences – some of which involve acts against minors under the age of thirteen – between 2017 to 2021.
One deputy chief CPS official said, “Legal teams have worked at length to assist a thorough and intricate investigation, carefully reviewing the evidence to establish that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the public interest.”
Scope of the Investigation
These allegations come after what police called a “complex investigation” into reported assaults at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.
Spencer will appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.
Breakdown of Offences
Prosecutors outline the forty-five sexual offences include:
- 15 counts of assault.
- Seventeen counts of assault by penetration.
- 9 counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
- 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
- 1 count of attempting to assault by penetration.
