LA Experiences Historic High Temperatures Only Days Following Severe Winter Storm.
After enduring torrential rains that resulted in floodwaters across areas in the city, the City of Angels is now grappling with unseasonably hot conditions for this time of year.
Record-Setting Heat
By Friday afternoon, the mercury soared to 33 degrees Celsius (91 Fahrenheit) in central LA, as reported by the National Weather Service. This easily surpasses the old record for this date, which was 88°F (31°C) and was established in 2025.
"Unusually high temperatures" were noted on NWS maps for the region.
Safety Warnings
The weather service stated that Friday's heat posed an "higher threat for heat illness" for those at risk. Their advice suggested:
- Keeping well-hydrated.
- Limiting outdoor activities during the peak heat of the day.
- Never leaving children or pets unattended in a parked vehicle.
An Extreme Weather Swing
This sudden spike in temperature comes on the heels of a massive winter storm that pummeled the region last week. That event brought heavy snow, strong winds, and thunderstorms to the mountains, triggering evacuation orders for many residents.

Weekend Outlook
Looking ahead a cooldown is expected. Readings were forecast to fall to around 61°F (16°C) in central Los Angeles by overnight.
Other locales that reached ninety degrees were Woodland Hills, Long Beach, and Burbank. Meanwhile, Oxnard, Westwood, Camarillo, and Santa Maria were projected to see the upper eighties.
In the coming days, downtown LA can anticipate temperatures in the eighties, with cooler weather on tap for the week ahead.
