One of the original creators of the well-known frozen dessert company Ben & Jerry's has stated that corporate owner the multinational conglomerate blocked the launch for an innovative pro-Palestinian ice cream flavor.

The entrepreneur, who co-founded the company with his partner, disclosed how he will independently develop the controversial product as part of a personal collection showcasing causes the company has been barred from addressing publicly.

Ongoing Dispute Involving Creators versus Parent Company

This latest development deepens the ongoing disagreement between the world-famous ice cream maker and Unilever, the UK-based consumer goods giant that acquired the ice cream brand for over two decades.

Both founders have claimed that Unilever and their ice cream division Magnum unlawfully blocked Ben & Jerry's from "fulfilling its ethical commitments".

The Fruit Sorbet as a Symbol of Solidarity

The entrepreneur revealed via social media how he is creating an innovative watermelon-flavored sorbet, asking for consumer ideas for the product's name and additional components.

“I'm doing what they were prevented from doing,” Mr. Cohen commented from a cooking set. “I'm creating a watermelon-based frozen dessert that advocates for lasting ceasefire for Palestinians and calls for addressing the harm that was done there.”

This particular fruit has become a symbol for solidarity with the Palestinian people because of its coloration, that closely resemble the colors in Palestine's national banner – red, green, black and white.

Historical Activism and Current Developments

In 2021, Ben & Jerry's refused to sell its products in territories under Israeli control, leading to the parent company transferring their Israel business over to an Israeli distributor, thus allowing continued sales in the occupied West Bank.

This upcoming dessert series is being developed under Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the activist dessert company which originally established in 2016 to support ex- US presidential candidate Senator Sanders via the flavor "Bernie's Back".

Leadership Shifts and Future Plans

Mr. Cohen stated that he will create other ice cream flavors that address issues which Ben & Jerry's was prevented from speaking about openly due to Unilever.

The announcement comes after partner Mr. Greenfield resigned from Ben & Jerry's recently, following decades of involvement, mentioning concerns regarding how its independence had been undermined after corporate moves to curb its social activism.

Previously, Mr. Cohen commented that "Jerry has strong compassion and the ongoing dispute with Unilever was deeply distressing him."

"My heart compels me to keep working inside the company to advocate for its independence so that the company can achieve its ethical purpose, the values which it was founded on while upholding for over 40 years," he told journalists.
