The Red Devils Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL team.

Her exit from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
